{Updated} The World of V.E. Schwab: Where to Begin

wp-1578361812850.jpg

At this point V.E. Schwab has written 17-18 books not including her comic books. If you’ve only just discovered her you might be lost as to where to begin. I’ve compiled a list of ALL her books by both the target audience and publication order. V.E. Schwab herself provides a super helpful guide to anyone who wants to fall down the world of monsters and mayhem, but don’t know where to start:

V.E. Schwab Facts and Easter Eggs

Look away if you would rather uncover the Easter Eggs yourself!

  • The Everyday Angel books were a “work-for-hire” series that Scholastic approached Victoria about which the author says basically saved her career.
  • Some of Victoria Schwab’s fan base call themselves “Schwablings”
  • Victoria Schwab quotes herself as Victor Vale on the front page (the epigraph) of The Savage Song.
  • Eli is for Elizabeth and Victor is for Victoria
  • Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards.
  • Cassidy and Sydney are the same people in different universes.
  • Kell has one blue eye and one brown eye. There is another character in a different world that has the same eye colors. See if you can find him or her!
  • V.E. Schwab does not shy away from queer representation: Victor is asexual. Rhy is bisexual. Alucard is gay. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue has a cast of queer characters.
  • “Kell’s peculiar many-sides coat is a nod to the Room of Requirement in Harry Potter. Look close and you’ll notice new sides always show up BEFORE he needs them.” – V.E. Schwab, Twitter
  • V.E. Schwab is bi but often refers to herself as being gay as well.
  • V.E. Schwab absolutely detests Earl Grey tea.

  2. I love this post. I usually recommend Schwab as an author to people looking to read more fantasy and this is such a brilliant guide to her work.

I am slightly kicking myself for not realising that Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards. How could I have missed that haha?
