Bad Hallmark movies: Read a book you want to see adapted into a film.

New Year’s Eve: Read the last book in a series.

“Special” Snowflake: Read a book that sounds unique.

Secret Santa: Read a book you would gift to someone or received as a gift yourself.

The Ghost of Christmas Past: Read a scary story (thriller, horror, paranormal).

INFO

DATES: December 1-31

CHALLENGES: This is all completely optional, but I made these challenges in case you like a little competition.

  • Candy Cane (Level One): Complete one row, the equivalent of 2-3 books. Remember, the free space counts!
  • Gingerbread Man (Level Two): Complete two rows, the equivalent of 5-6 books.
  • Gingerbread House (Level Three): Complete all boxes by reading 8 books that fulfill the challenges.

RULES: There are none! You can make a TBR in advance or mood read and cross a prompt off as you go. You can either do traditional bingo and try to cross out 3 challenges in a row or simply try to cover as much of the board as possible. It doesn’t really matter. You can even go about your week reading as you normally would and then come back to the card to see if those books happened to match the bingo card.

SUPPLIES:

  • Christmas-themed stickers to mark a circle upon completion (a pen works just fine, too).
  • Pens and tabs for annotating my books.
  • Relaxing holiday-themed ASMR (I noticed this has helped me focus on reading).
  • Blankets, mugs, and hot cocoa.

BONUS: I’m also throwing in another little challenge for myself. For every prompt I finish, I have to cross off something on my Winter Bucket List and photograph myself doing it. My bucket list will be posted on Tuesday, December 3rd.

You are free to use this bingo card however you wish. I don’t really expect anyone to join. I’m mostly doing this for myself, but if you do make an announcement to say you’re joining please link back to this post. It would also help to use #MerryXmasReadingBingo so I can track participants, but again, no worries if you don’t.

April TBR | Magical Readathon

Magical readathon

Owls

I’m joining yet another Readathon. Don’t worry. I’m completely sane. Not to mention, I usually forget what a Readathon actually is and read at the pace of a snail rather than binge-read like my life depends on it. Therefore, I’m not currently experiencing a burn out.

The 2019 O.W.Ls come in the form of 12 book challenges. Luckily, I don’t have to do all twelve. There’s a list of several wizarding careers I can choose from (i.e. librarian, wandmaker, auror, astronomer). Upon choosing, I then find my “exam requirements” based on the career path in the form of any number of reading challenges. I have no idea whether I’ll actually do a career path. However, the criteria for passing are as such:

  • Acceptable = 2 or more O.W.Ls complete
  • Exceeds Expectations = 6 or more O.W.Ls complete
  • Outstanding = 9 or more O.W.Ls complete

Most of the books I chose were already High Priority reads. I did my best to apply the books I wanted to read to each challenge instead of vice vera. I’m committing to 6 challenges. Whatever books I don’t read, I’ll bump over to next month for my May TBR.

Highlights:
  • Runs through the month of April.
  • We’re not allowed to use the same book for different challenges.
  • Choosing a wizarding career path is optional.
  • You need to sit and pass 6+ OWL exams to get an ‘O’ (Outstanding)

Holiday-Themed Twitter Names-4

I’m astounded by how many read-a-thons there are this month. I still haven’t decide which (and if) read-a-thon I will participate in. Each link will take you to either a thread or a video announcement with the challenges listed below. I know that reading challenges can be daunting for some—I myself never win them. I can’t read that much in such a short period of time! I like to do them from time to time because it just makes me feel connected with the book community. I don’t know if I will actually join any because like I said I’m not a fast reader and I’m not sure if I’ll find the right books to match the prompts, haha.

With that being said, here is a list of a few read-a-thons you can participate in this month! (You may notice that some of them overlap or have similar prompts).

Tis the Season — December 3rd-9th

A Very Merry Readathon (video) — December 10th-16th.

12 Days of Readathon — December 12th-23rd

Yule Witchathon — December 14th-21st

Oh What Fun Readathon — December 16th-23rd

Winter CramAThon — December 22nd-28th

The Holiday AdventureAThon — TBA

Are you joining any read-a-thons this month? Which ones? Do any of these interest you?

The Booktubeathon Challenge + a brief return from my hiatus

Copy of The stars say_-2

Hello fellow reader friends!!!

I’m still on hiatus, but at the very last second I decided to attempt the BookTubeAThon. The BookTubeAThon, created by Ariel Bissett, runs the course of one week (Monday, July 30th – Sunday, August 5th) and includes seven reading challenges. Apparently, the challenge is on it’s fifth year! It’s technically a Booktube thing but you can join through any social media platform.

This is my first time ever doing it. I’ve been in the biggest reading slump of the year and I really think this will help. I already started the challenge on Monday, but I wanted to post my choices here.

The reading challenges are as follows:

2018 Reading Challenges

ONE: Let a coin toss decide your first read.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli (Heads) OR Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han (Tails)

Winner: Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

TWO: Read a book about something you want to do.

I’ve always wanted to go to graduate school or further my education. In the past, I dreamed of going to a prestigious university (that did’t work out). For this challenge, I went with Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor. This Afro-futuristic sci-fi series revolves around a girl named Binti, who is the first of her race to ever be accepted to Oomza University.

THREE: Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation.

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

(I may change this one, but we’ll see)

FOUR: Read a book with green on the cover.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han

Pictured: Green petal prints on a coat that hangs over a chair.

FIVE: Read a book while wearing the same hat the whole time.

I will be wearing my ‘Rattle of Stars’ beanie hat from Fairyloot while reading Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas, which is perfect!

SIX: Read a book with a beautiful spine.

Siege of Storm by Leigh Bardugo has the most beautiful design and font. I want to finish the books set in the Grishaverse before her new 2019 release King of Scars set in the same world.

SEVEN: Read seven books.

Maybe? If I get a hold of a graphic novel, another short book, or an audiobook. I can get one month free with Scribd, an audiobook subscription. It’s less expensive than Audible.

Booktubeathon TBR Progress:

  1. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli ✓
  2. Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor
  3. Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
  4. Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han ✓
  5. Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas – In Progress
  6. Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
  7. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (audiobook) –

Are you doing the Booktube-A-Thon this year? How many books have you read so far?
