Super Chill Christmas Reading Bingo

A holiday-themed book challenge. Details below.

Christmas Reading Bingo

DATES: December 1-31st, 2021

RULES

There are none! You can either cross off bingo spaces as you read, which is what I recommend for mood readers, or pick out your TBR in advance. You can either do traditional bingo and try to cross out 3 challenges in a row or try to cover as much of the board as possible. Additionally, you can also double up on prompts. The types of formats you can read are not limited: you can listen to audiobooks or read graphic novels, novellas, and more.

PROMPTS

Sappy Hallmark movies: Read a book that’s been adapted to the big screen or that you want to see adapted.

Hide, it’s Krampus!: Read a scary story (thriller, horror, paranormal, etc).

New Year’s Eve: Read the last book in a series (a sequel works as well).

Bah, humbug! Read a work of non-fiction.

Nightmare Before Christmas: Your TBR piled up too quickly! Read a book you need to finish before the end of the year.

Mistletoe: Read a romance or contemporary novel (or something cozy in general).

“Special” Snowflake: Read a book that has a unique premise or over.

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells: Read a book of poetry or a book that has lyrical prose (you can also read a graphic novel).

Make sure to use hashtag #MerryXmasReadingBingo and link back to this post!

BONUS CHALLENGE

This is completely optional, but I made an additional challenges in case you want to get a little competitive. For the bonus challenge, you can’t double up on prompts.

  • Level One – Candy Cane: Complete one row, the equivalent of 2-3 books. Remember, the free space counts!
  • Level Two – Snowman: Complete two rows, the equivalent of 5-6 books.
  • Level Three – Gingerbread House: Complete all boxes by reading 8 books that fulfill the challenges.

Holiday-Themed Twitter Names-4

I’m astounded by how many read-a-thons there are this month. I still haven’t decide which (and if) read-a-thon I will participate in. Each link will take you to either a thread or a video announcement with the challenges listed below. I know that reading challenges can be daunting for some—I myself never win them. I can’t read that much in such a short period of time! I like to do them from time to time because it just makes me feel connected with the book community. I don’t know if I will actually join any because like I said I’m not a fast reader and I’m not sure if I’ll find the right books to match the prompts, haha.

With that being said, here is a list of a few read-a-thons you can participate in this month! (You may notice that some of them overlap or have similar prompts).

Tis the Season — December 3rd-9th

A Very Merry Readathon (video) — December 10th-16th.

12 Days of Readathon — December 12th-23rd

Yule Witchathon — December 14th-21st

Oh What Fun Readathon — December 16th-23rd

Winter CramAThon — December 22nd-28th

The Holiday AdventureAThon — TBA

Are you joining any read-a-thons this month? Which ones? Do any of these interest you?

What’s On My December TBR? (It’s Out of Control)

My Immediate TBR

Rereading TBR

  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
  • The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I’ve never re-read a single Harry Potter book except for Deathly Hallows. This is due to the fact that by mom almost never bought me my own books and I relied mostly on the library until she stopped taking me. I read The Cruel Prince when it was released early this year, but I want to re-read it to refresh my memory for The Wicked King.

Unfinished TBR
  • What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
  • Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

yikes…

These are all the books I started but haven’t finished yet. I don’t like being stuck with one book no matter how good it is. This is a side-effect of being a mood reader. Well, I got bored with Siege and Storm and What If It’s Us

Tbh, I kind of feel like this:
